WSF 4th & Beech
Early Sunday morning MCFD bells rang for a working structure fire, 2 homes involved and endangering a third home. All borough units responded along with Chiefs 1, 2, & 3. A 2nd and 3rd alarm was struck, which brought in mutual aid companies from Mt. Carmel Township, Shamokin, Kulpmont, Coal Township, Sunbury, Conyngham Township, and Ashland.
Chief 1 assumed command and ordered an immediate defensive operation. As crews were setting up a possible backdraft occurred which resulted in an explosion type effect that blew flames, heat, and debris several feet from the buildings. MCFD has a turnout gear ROG that may have prevented firefighter injuries.
No injuries were reported to any firefighters or building occupants. Two dogs were saved and one cat is missing.
Crews were in service for about 4 hours.
A cause has yet to be determined.
Thank You to all those who provided food and drinks along with our mutual aid companies.
A short video is posted on you tube that shows the early stages of the fire.
